2018 Recap!

With the start of the new year and with 2018 behind us, I’ve taken some time to reflect on the past year and I look forward to 2019. 2018 was the first year I was able to be a true full time wedding photographer, which has been my goal since I originally began photographing weddings seven years ago! It was a long journey filled with obstacles and failures that turned into learning experiences to better myself and my business. I am very fortunate to have the help and support of my friends and family in pursuing my dream to run my own photography business. I absolutely would not be where I am today without them!

I’d also like to thank all of my clients for being awesome to work with and for supporting my passion for photography! I’ve been fortunate enough to have been selected as a 2019 winner of The Knot Best of Weddings, an award representing the highest-rated wedding professionals as reviewed by real couples, their families, and wedding guests on TheKnot.com. This is the second year in a row Joe Banker Photography has received this award and I’m hoping to continue the trend!

I’ve chosen some of my favorite photos from 2018 to share. I intended to share ten photos but I couldn’t narrow the 18,628 photos I’ve given to my clients down to a mere ten! So here are 40 of my favorites from 2018 in no particular order. Thank you again and here’s to 2019! 🥂

Anthony & Renee 10/13/2018

Anthony & Renee’s big day was an oddly chilly Fall Saturday in Medina, but the cold didn’t put a damper on the celebration! Their wedding was held at Williams On The Lake and was definitely one of my favorite venues of the year!

Krista & Nick 9/21/2018

Krista & Nick’s big day was a fun celebration from start to finish. It was my second reception this year at The Happy Days Lodge in Peninsula, OH where some of my favorite dancing photos of the year were taken!

Dibs & Cass 9/16/2018

For this fun couples wedding I had the opportunity to get out of Ohio for a day and visit Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We checked out a couple popular areas for their first look and some portraits before heading to the National Aviary for their ceremony and reception. One pretty cool perk of having a wedding at The Aviary was the penguin that hung out with the guests for a photo opportunity during cocktail hour! Overall, Dibs & Cass’ wedding was a great ending to my busiest weekend of the year! … And the Steelers lost that day, so the lifelong Clevelander in me had no complaints!

Gabby & Tyler 9/15/2018

It’s always a fun day when you have the opportunity to photograph a friends wedding! Gabby and Tyler’s big day was on a hot and sunny September Saturday. I’ve known the groom since summer league baseball back when we were teenagers and it was an honor to be able to photograph his marriage!

Lisa & Sean 9/14/2018

Lisa & Sean’s Friday evening wedding in Stow, Ohio featured one of the most vivid sunsets of the wedding season. The Stow Heritage Barn is a great DIY venue surrounded by awesome scenery, which made for awesome photos!

8/5/2018 Haadjer & Kamol

This wedding was one of the most unique days I’ve been able to be a part of. It’s always great to experience the wedding celebration with different cultures. Haadjer and Kamol’s big day was nothing short of a beautiful day!

7/28/2018 Adam & Ellyn

For Adam & Ellyn’s big day we started at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls, visited Wade Lagoon near the CMA for a majority of our photos and finished the day at Windows on the River in Cleveland!

Cody & Kristen 7/21/2018

Cody & Kristen’s big day was one of the most fun groups I’ve been able to photograph this year! It was hard to pick only a few photos to post! The wedding took place at Meadow Ridge Events Center in Windsor, Ohio.

Brian & Allison 6/29/2018

Some of my favorites from Brian & Allison's sunny and hot Summer wedding! Their reception venue, The Columbia Ballroom, was one of my favorite reception venues so far this year!

Chelsea & Jake 6/23/2018

Torrential downpours, 3 hour power outage and no phone service were all challenges faced during Chelsea and Jake's big day. Fortunately, the wedding took place at Chelsea's family owned camp on a beautiful piece of property in Pennsylvania. I couldn't have asked for a better couple to work with and a great group that didn't let a little rain ruin the celebration! Some of these are definitely my favorite images so far this year!

Shanna & Dustin - Engagement

I visited the small town of Minerva to photograph Shanna and Dustin's engagement photos. They chose the Minerva Homecoming as the backdrop since that was where they had their first date. We were all very happy with the results from the mini session!

Josh & McKinley 4/14/2018

It's not everyday that I get the opportunity to travel out of state to capture a wedding day, but when I do it's always a blast! For Josh & McKinley's big day I got to visit a secluded piece of land in a small town near Wilmington, NC. The meticulous DIY setup of the property, and sweet tea of course, reflected the Southern charm I'm always after when in the Carolinas. It was great to be a part of two tight-knit loving families from different continents (Josh's family is from South Africa) bonding together!
